La solicitud se realizó en el Primer Tribunal Ambiental de Antofagasta, que la declaró admisible.

La Comunidad Indígena Colla Pai Ote presentó una reclamación en contra del Servicio de Evaluación Ambiental (SEA), solicitud que fue admitida a trámite por el Primer Tribunal Ambiental de Antofagasta.

Se trata de una causa que pretende revertir la calificación favorable del proyecto minero Blanco, que tiene por objetivo extraer salmuera desde el Salar de Maricunga, para la posterior producción de carbonato de litio y cloruro de potasio.

En el escrito, los reclamantes aseguran que sus observaciones no fueron consideradas por el Servicio de Evaluación Ambiental y que tampoco se les hizo partícipe en la consulta indígena que realizó el organismo evaluador.

Esta organización ha intentado por varias vías detener el proyecto, sin tener éxito hasta el momento, y según se detalla en el documento, acusan que durante la evaluación ambiental del EIA (Estudio de Impacto Ambiental) “la autoridad ambiental no se reunió con las comunidades Colla que han hecho uso y ocupación ancestral del Salar de Maricunga y territorios aledaños (…) con el objeto de recoger sus opiniones, analizarlas y determinar la procedencia de la aplicación del término anticipado al procedimiento de evaluación”.

La iniciativa es una de las más importantes que se encuentran en desarrollo en el país, y considera una inversión de más de US$ 500 millones.

File claim for lithium project in Maricunga

The Colla Pai Ote Indigenous Community filed a claim against the Service of Environmental Assessment (SEA), a request that was admitted for processing by the First Environmental Court of Antofagasta. This is a case that seeks to reverse the favorable rating of the mining Project Blanco, whose objective is to extract brine from the Salar de Maricunga, for the subsequent production of lithium carbonate and potassium chloride. In the brief, the claimants state that their observations were not considered by the Environmental Assessment Service and that they were not made a participant in the indigenous consultation carried out by the evaluating body.

This organization has tried in various ways to stop the project, without success until the moment, and as detailed in the document, they accuse that during the evaluationof the EIA (Environmental Impact Study) “the environmental authority did not meet with the Colla communities that have made use and ancestral occupation of the Salar de Maricunga and surrounding territories (…) in order to collect their opinions, analyze them and determine the origin of the application of the anticipated term to the procedure of assessment”.

The initiative is one of the most important in development in the country, and considers an investment of more than US$ 500 million.
